Southern Utahns AC Should Be What Temp?!
Last week I was filling up my gas tank at Harmons when the attendant came up to chat and of course, the weather was a topic. I mentioned that it felt pretty hot to me after the man commented on the coolness of the day. He told me I had my AC too low.
Now, this was all pleasant and whatnot, but I got to thinking about what the actual recommended temperature is for ACs in homes in Southern Utah. I wasn’t the only one either. A St. George Word of Mouth Facebook Page poster asked what others kept their homes at.
The answers varied but most stayed somewhere in the 70s.
Now, I will say I am simply not built for the heat and some answers ranging up anywhere past 72 F is crazy to me! However, I have three animals and zero heat tolerance so there’s that.
According to the Utah Department of Workforce Services, the ideal summer AC temp is 78-82 degrees. It also recommends that when you’re away you set it to 85. Of course, to save money the DWS said to turn OFF the AC at night and open the windows.
Last night it was still in the high 80s at midnight so there’s NO WAY I would do that.
As I mentioned before, I have three animals, a dog, and two ferrets and overheating is a big no-no. Hepper.com said the size and breed of the dog can impact what you should keep your home at but when you’re comfortable so are your pets.
“Your dog will be comfortable at temperatures between 65 and 75 degrees. And if you’re concerned that 65 is too cold for your canine, remember that they’re actually safe below 45 degrees with no concern.”—Hepper.com
With all that in mind, I think I’ll stick with my 70 at night and 72 during the day but I’d love to know what your thoughts are! Comment on our Facebook Page.
