If you've applied to run any of the future medical cannabis dispensaries in Utah, you've got plenty of competition.

The health department says more than 130 people have applied for just 14 dispensaries that will distribute marijuana to patients who qualify.

The legislature initially wanted county health departments to distribute the drug, but backtracked over concerns county government workers could face criminal charges for dealing a controlled substance.

Utah's medical cannabis system should be up and running by next March.
