Doctors Say Unvaccinated Individuals Can Expect To Get COVID
State health officials and experts with the University of Utah say unvaccinated individuals can expect to get the COVID-19 Delta variant. Researchers say choosing not to get vaccinated is a choice to ultimately get infected by the virus as data from the state Department of Health suggests that the variant is on its way to become the dominant strain in the state. The World Health Organization declared it as a variant of concern as it is the fastest and fittest strain of the virus yet. Officials urge Utahns to get vaccinated now, but if they choose not to, they advise those individuals to wear masks and avoid crowds.

Zion National Park Officials Report Jump In Heat Related Emergencies
Washington County - Zion National Park officials are reporting a spike in emergency calls related to the heat since Memorial Day weekend. Officials say they have responded to about two dozen heat-related calls over the last month as the state saw record heat waves. They added that they typically see heat-related illnesses when temperatures reach 105-degrees or more. Officials expect extreme temperatures in the foreseeable future and urge visitors to stay hydrated, eat and wear hats, sunglasses or lightweight clothes to avoid serious heat-related illnesses.
Utah Police Standards Board Considering Legality Of Officer Use Of Cannabis
The group that oversees police standards and procedures in Utah is dealing with the tricky question of whether police officers should be allowed to use medical cannabis. Police academies are apparently facing increasing questions about the use of the drug, which has been legal for medical use since 2018. The Peace Officer Standards & Training Council does not allow any officer who carries a firearm to use cannabis because it is still illegal on the national level. But the POST board said yesterday that it may consider changes that would allow unarmed corrections officers to use the drug.
Bomb Squad Detonates Suspicious Device Found At I-15 Rest Stop
Iron County - A rest stop on Interstate 15 in Iron County is open again after an investigation into a possible bomb threat. The Utah Highway Patrol closed the rest area near milepost 88 yesterday afternoon after an abandoned vehicle was found there. The UHP said a suspicious device was seen in the vehicle and removed, and a bomb squad detonated it as a precaution. The UHP later said the device was not an explosive and posed no threat to the public.
