New Utah rule bans conversion therapy for LGBTQ children

The new rule banning conversion therapy for LGBTQ children in Utah is now in effect.

Under regulations approved by the Department of Commerce at the behest of Governor Gary Herbert, therapists can no longer practice the treatment methods on children to change their sexual orientation or gender identity.

Psychologists and therapists who engage in the practice in Utah can lose their license.

The American Psychological Association has determined conversion therapy is not based in science and can be harmful to a person's mental health.
