Hundreds of people are protesting a new wave of abortion bans being passed in Utah and other U.S. states.

Carrie Galloway of Planned Parenthood of Utah said yesterday's protests were designed to push back against laws that are chipping away at a woman's right to choose.

While some chanted and waved signs at the State Capitol building in Salt Lake City, others in Provo called state lawmakers to register their disapproval of such laws.

Utah passed a law earlier this year that bars abortions 18 weeks after conception.

State Representative Cheryl Acton sponsored the Utah bill that banned most abortions after 18 weeks, and she says the Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion needs to be challenged.
