A rare black-haired mule deer that became a beloved attraction in Moab died from chronic wasting disease.

The Division of Wildlife Resources says "Coal" is now the 15th confirmed case of the neurological disease in the state since July 2019.

Coal was found dead in a resident's yard last month.

The community rallied to have him preserved through taxidermy.
