A teen who was left for dead in a Smithfield canal nearly three years ago is now the homecoming queen of her school.

Seventeen-year-old Deserae Turner was crowned queen at Green Canyon High School last Friday.

Turner has had ten brain surgeries and countless hours of physical therapy since she was shot in February, 2017, and will have two more surgeries this year.

The two boys involved in shooting her are both serving 15 years to life in prison.

The public address announcer at Green Canyon High School let everyone know who won the title of Homecoming Queen last Friday night.
