An elementary school teacher is back in the classroom following a bit of controversy.

The Davis School District confirmed today that Moana Patterson returned to a Valley View Elementary School after an incident last week where she asked a student to wipe Ash Wednesday ashes from his forehead.

Patterson called the incident a total misunderstanding and said she mistook the religious symbol for dirt.

Patterson returned to the classroom after a school district review of the situation.
