The Unified Police Department may stop using body cameras, a change that doesn't sit well with some critics.

Marvin Oliveros was one of the protesters gathered outside UPD headquarters in Salt Lake City last night to tell the department they should continue using body cams no matter how much it costs.

Oliveros lost his brother in an officer-involved shooting last year and says body cameras are one of the few ways to hold police officers accountable.

The UPD estimates that it needs more than 450-thousand-dollars to finish equipping all officers with body cams and operate the program annually.

That cost would fall completely on the department, as a federal grant that helped fund the body cams has now expired.

A decision on what to do with the program is still being discussed.
