Utah lawmakers say unlikely to make changes to state’s tax code
Lawmakers seeking to reform the state's tax code say it is unlikely they will have a special session this year to vote on any changes.
The state's tax reform task force met yesterday and discussed the possibility of revoking all of Utah's current tax exemptions and imposing a sales tax on some services.
Utah has 89 different tax exemptions that reportedly cost the state nearly one-billion dollars in revenue every year.
After the meeting, leaders of the task force said they will talk with other state lawmakers next week to gauge the level of support for the ideas that have been gathered over the last few months.
