The number of signatures for a referendum that would force a public vote on the tax overhaul bill approved by state lawmakers has increased.

Organizers say they have collected nearly 65-hundred signatures.

The referendum must collect roughly 116-thousand signatures by January 21st in order to qualify for the November ballot.

The bill passed by the State Legislature revamps the Utah tax code, slashing the state income tax while hiking the sales tax on food and gasoline, and imposing new taxes on certain services.
