Utah's Republican Congressman Chris Stewart is co-sponsoring a bill that could make it easier for rural counties to receive federal grants. Stewart says, “It’s not the sexiest bill to go down in Utah, but it’s incredibly important to rural Utah.”  He also says too many counties in Utah and throughout the West face education, infrastructure and housing shortages due to the amount of untaxable federally controlled land. He added that fund-matching requirements and other reasons bar rural counties where 50-percent or more of the land is owned by the federal government from obtaining grants.
