Elizabeth Smart’s father comes out as gay

The father of kidnapping victim Elizabeth Smart is confirming a social media post in which he came out as gay and said he and his wife were divorcing.

Ed Smart posted a letter to Facebook yesterday in which he said he needed to be honest and truthful about his sexual orientation.

He also said he doesn't see a place for himself in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Smart's letter was removed from Facebook shortly after it was posted yesterday because it was only supposed to be seen by family and friends.
