Independent Redistricting commission in Utah moving forward
Legislation changing aspects of the voter-approved initiative creating an independent redistricting commission for Utah has cleared its first test.
Senate Bill Two-Hundred passed the Senate Business and Labor Committee on a unanimous vote.
The bill loosens some restrictions from Proposition Four.
The seven-member redistricting commission would create new congressional and legislative district maps and would remain independent.
However, the Legislature could vote whether to accept those maps.
