Bill approved granting businesses some immunity from lawsuits
The Utah Legislature has approved a bill that would grant businesses some immunity from civil lawsuits involving the coronavirus pandemic.
Republican State Senator Kirk Cullimore of Draper sponsored SB 3007 and he dismisses concerns from opponents about possible misuse of the law.
Those opposed to the bill worry that it would shield companies who don't take steps to protect workers and customers from the spread of coronavirus.
Supporters argue an expensive lawsuit could force smaller businesses to close. The bill now heads to the governor for his signature.
State Democratic Representative Marie Poulson of Cottonwood Heights worries that the bill will send the wrong message to Utah businesses.
