Ancient Ship Outline Spotted In Bonneville Salt Flats Stirs Curiosity
At one time in the earth’s history, Lake Bonneville covered much of Utah. Geologists say it dried up 13,000 to 30,000 years ago, leaving only remnants of what was a massive body of water.
Now a man thinks he may have found an ancient ship in the leftover salt spread across the desert floor.
Discovery at the Bonneville Salt Flats
The Bonneville Salt Flats west of the Great Salt Lake is a flat area made of all the salt after the water evaporated. A man from Utah named Brandon Nay has found a formation in the salt that looks a lot like a ship.
He was curious and on a closer look found what looks like the outline of ropes extending from the vessel and even the form of a woman attached to what looks like a broken off part of the front of the ship.
Expert Insights: A Cautious Approach
In the video, it shows Nay heading out to the location with an archeologist named Aaron Jordan to see what he thinks of the find. Jordan doesn’t put a lot of stock in it being a ship although he does encourage Nay to look into ground penetrating radar.
By the end of the video, that is what he gets set to do. They plan on scanning with the radar and LIDAR that can be done with a drone. It will be interesting to see what they come up with in follow up videos.

If this were to prove to be an ancient see faring vessel, it could have huge implications. They won’t be able to do anything archeologically until they can prove there is something man-made there that they can find.
