Explore Utah’s Wilderness On Modified Bikes Along Old Rail Routes
There are portions of abandoned railroad tracks in Utah. Some people explore these old tracks using a modified vehicle. This is a way to glide along these old rails and explore the wild areas they travel through.
Rail Bike
The easiest way to make a vehicle to ride these old tracks is to modify a regular bicycle to ride the rails. The trick is to make stabilizing bars that extend from the bike frame and attaches to one of the rails.
This makes it so you can pedal the bike on the other rail for a smooth ride. This will also work with an electric bike for easy cruising. There are sites that show how to build a rail bike and some that sell them.
Go Cart Style Rail Rider
The other option is a cart with four wheels that sit on the rails that like train wheels do. These can be self-propelled, but they usually have a motor to move them. These offer the ability to take longer trips.
There is a company that sells these units. There are some people who have made some elaborate vehicles to ride the rails through wilderness areas. There are also companies that offer tours and supply all you need to try rail riding.
