The humble mobility scooter found near the grocery carts is an untapped resource. Sure, it makes a big difference for those who need the help, but I’m talking about being the main attraction at the county fair, half time shows, and for city celebrations.

Spectators Love the Mobility Scooter Derby

Leave it to England to discover something we should have all seen. In the town of Scunthorpe in North Lincolnshire they held an event that started as a race between mobility scooters on a dirt circular track that turned into a crash up derby.

This was brilliant. Anytime you do something completely unexpected it makes people laugh and is entertaining. Taking this humble electrical service vehicle and turning it into a racing machine or even better, a battering ram, is always going to be funny.

Watching participants perform a slow-motion head-on crash is enjoyable. If I were in charge of entertainment for the county fair, I would start purchasing mobility scooters and booking drivers now.

The World Record for the Fastest Mobility Scooter

Speaking of the unexpected. Guinness keeps a record for the fastest mobility scooter. This is currently held by Sven Ohler, also British, who built one that reached an incredible speed of 112 miles per hour.

Can you imagine going that fast on a scooter? You could get your shopping done at the biggest of box stores in no time. Once again, if I were in charge of entertainment for a football half time show, I’m getting Sven on the line.
