Utah – Meet the bad snacks that are so good
I read a story about a woman on TikTok as she describes the “Snacks that will ruin your life”. She even jokingly tells others on TikTok, “If you don’t want to ruin your life, keep scrolling”. I like this lady already. Her name is Jazmyn W and her kryptonite from the snack world includes Chessmen Butter Cookies from Pepperidge Farms and Dryer’s Double Fudge Brownie ice cream.
Really? Those sound like diet items to me. I have a few to add to the list. Hopefully you do too. I came upon this one by accident at Disneyland in Los Angeles. My wife and I decided to split a funnel cake. No big deal, right? We’ve all had a funnel cake or two at the fair or an art festival.
Well all would have been fine until I had the bright idea of getting a cup of soft-serve vanilla ice cream and I plopped it on top of the funnel cake. Yes, we did hear angels singing when it landed. If you are looking for an easy way to double your body weight, I highly recommend this.
Another accidental treat not to try is adding minor little chunks of sugar cookie dough into vanilla ice cream. Chocolate chip cookie dough has become common but when you try sugar cookie dough chunks, you're going to cry. I don't care who you are.
I even found a way to ruin oatmeal. Yes, oatmeal is very healthy and good for you. It says so right on the box. Heart-Healthy.
Where it goes BAD is when I take my friend’s advice and dress up the oatmeal by pouring on what’s called Heavy Whipping Cream. That’s whip cream that hasn’t been whipped yet. DON’T DO THAT. Also, don’t add brown sugar, cinnamon, banana slices, raisins and whole milk instead of that 2% stuff. If you weigh yourself right now, you will find you have gained 2.7 lbs. by just reading that.
Don’t get Cinnamon Burst bread from Great Harvest Bread Company when you are making French toast either. It has habit-forming qualities that can grip you for life. But wow, is it good. Add some butter and powdered sugar and you are ready for a big smile and your first heart attack.
I am however determined to balance my life by enjoying some of these treats that are bad for me with regular exercise. I know so many people who eat sprouts and kale but don't work out. I'd rather put in the gym time and have stuff I like. I'd hate to calculate the calories and match them up with the workout required to break even. I'm afraid to find out I need to do 37 days on the treadmill after I have a bowl of my kind of oatmeal.
