Attention Walmart Shoppers: Changes Utahns Should Know

After six years, Walmart has changed their coupon policy. The changes happened last month, but it has only come to the attention of shoppers as they implemented the new rules. These changes are instituted across the nation including Utah where there are 51 locations. 

This biggest change is the policy has to do with overage. This is where they would give the full value of a coupon despite the price of the product. You could actually have a coupon that was for more than the price of the product and get the difference applied to the total or even cash back. 

It is now aligned with most retailers:  

Walmart does not give cash back nor will any overages apply to the remaining items in the transaction if the value of a coupon is greater than the purchase value of the item, including WIC and SNAP. 

The value of a coupon will be applied up to the price of the item and any excess value will not be applied to the transaction total. 

 Other guidelines listed say they will not accept coupons from mobile phones, and they will only accept one paper manufacturer coupon per item. Also, all coupons need to be scannable. There is not an override the clerk can do to use a coupon. It also says the coupon being used needs to match the product or brand listed.
