How much did your high school prepare you for adult life? Would you consider High School years to be where basic life skills should be taught?

I love teachers and I appreciate the hard work that they do.  I also realize there are just so many hours in a school day, and there's no way they can teach every little thing about life to our kids.  But boy oh boy I wish I had learned some of these things in a classroom.

Lifehacker.com has compiled a list of items that the average student should learn from their high school.

I've shortened the list to some of the ones I hope my kids learn before they graduate.  You can find the full list on lifehacker.com.

3) HAPPINESS TAKES A LOT OF WORK

Sadness comes pretty easily, but it's happiness that needs to be worked for.  The media will have you believe that happiness comes from buying enough stuff, so many young adults are shocked when they have a nice car but still feel sad.

4) THE REAL DEFINITION OF CONSENT.

I feel this is more on parents to teach to their children.  Also, this is something that a lot of kids learn by example.  But think of how much tragedy could be avoided if this concept was more normalized.

5) THE ART OF CONVERSATION

Oh Boy!  Conversation is a lost art these days.  Ask any employer, and they'll tell you their biggest struggle with the current generation is their lack of social skills.

10) GOOD TIME MANAGEMENT

Apparently laying in bed all day watching T.V. isn't a good use of time.  I learned this the hard way, long after graduation.
