The Utah Highway Patrol and Utah Department of Transportation are once again asking drivers statewide to be extra careful between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

UDOT spokesman John Gleason says summer should be a safe driving season but often turns out just the opposite.

The UHP and UDOT kicked off their 100 Safest Days driver awareness campaign yesterday at Riverton High School.  Students at the event pledged to spread the word about safe summer driving to their peers.

The period between Memorial Day and Labor Day has come to be known as the 100 deadliest days on Utah roads because traffic-related deaths have historically doubled during that time frame.

Sergeant Nick Street of the Utah Highway Patrol says it's easy to take a few steps to be safer while driving.
