State education officials have launched a process to update rules involving discipline for Utah teachers.

Last week, the Utah State Board of Education approved recommendations to change the evaluation process from the Professional Practices Advisory Commission.

According to those recommendations, state board members will continually monitor that commission's procedures to ensure educators are treated fairly, and that students have teachers trained to avoid "ethical problems in the classroom."

A state board committee will review possible changes over the coming months.
