Former state Senator Jim Dabakis is encouraging Utah's unaffiliated and Democratic voters to join the Republican Party, at least until the end of June.

Dabakis tells the Deseret News that he's switched his party affiliation so he can vote in the June 30th Republican primary for governor.

Dabakis called the primary "rigged," and said all voters should register as Republicans and vote to make sure the best person is elected governor.

The announcement comes after candidate and former Governor Jon Huntsman, Junior used social media to ask supporters to make sure they were registered with the GOP so they can vote in the primary.
