St. George man arrested for attempted murder of Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy

A St. George  man has been  arrested in California after the shooting of a Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy.

Authorities said 30-year-old Rhett Mckenzie Nelson, of Saint George, entered a Jack In the Box restaurant Monday evening and shot an off-duty deputy, 50-year-old Joseph Solano, in the head.

Solano is in critical condition.

Nelson drove off in an S-U-V, then called his father from Long Beach and told him he'd committed a murder.

Nelson may have committed other crimes before coming to California.
