A Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy who was allegedly shot by a Utah man on Monday has died.

Sheriff Alex Villanueva made the announcement about Deputy Joseph Solano outside the Los Angeles County Medical Center.

The deputy was shot in the back of the head Monday night at a fast food restaurant in Alhambra.

On Tuesday, police arrested 30-year-old Utah resident Rhett Nelson.

They believe he killed the deputy and a different person an hour before near downtown Los Angeles.

Investigators think he may have committed other crimes.

The family of a Utah man reported him missing two weeks before he allegedly shot and killed two people in California.

Captain Mike Giles of the St. George Police Department says the family of 30-year-old Rhett Nelson reported him missing May 28th and followed up that report on June 5th.

Giles says that the St. George Police Department was told that Nelson was carrying a gun at the time he disappeared.
