ST. GEORGE — Michele Randall was appointed Mayor of St. George on Tuesday afternoon during a special City Council meeting, filling the role of mayor until the next election in November 2021. Randall, who has served on the City Council since 2014, won by a vote of 4-1. Councilman Jimmie Hughes received the other vote.

“St. George is an amazing place to live and we want to keep it that way,” said Randall, the first female Mayor in the 159-year history of St. George. “I’m ready to hit the ground running. I don’t think we will miss a beat.”

A resident of St. George for 42 years, Randall has twice been elected to the City Council. During her time on the Council, Randall has served on the board of directors for many civic and non-profit organizations. The organizations include: Utah League of Cities and Towns, Veterans Coalition of Southern Utah, Doctors' Volunteer Clinic, Washington County Solid Waste, Shade Tree and Beautification, St. George Musical Theater and the Dixie Transportation Executive Council. She also served as the Council liaison to the St. George Police Department and St. George Fire Department.

Randall will be sworn in as the 33rd Mayor of St. George at 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 21, at the start of the regular City Council meeting.

Randall and her husband Tony are the parents of four and grandparents of nine.

The application process to replace Randall on the Council will be announced shortly.
