Supporters of the original version of Utah's voter-approved medical cannabis initiative have won a small victory in their battle against the state.

A U.S. magistrate judge has denied a request by the Utah Attorney General's Office to dismiss a lawsuit challenging a replacement version of the medical cannabis initiative approved by state lawmakers.

The judge also agreed to send the matter back to the state court system.

The groups that filed the lawsuit argue that the state disregarded the will of voters when it passed the replacement bill changing Proposition Two.
