The first funerals begin today for three of the nine victims who were ambushed by a Mexican drug cartel.

About five-hundred people are expected to attend the services for Dawna Ray Langford and her two sons, 11-year-old Trevor and two-year old Rogan.

On Monday, women and children who were part of a fundamentalist Mormon community were killed while driving in SUVs.

Funerals for the other victims are expected to take place later this week.

The man who was detained by Mexican authorities in connection with the murders of nine women and children is no longer considered a suspect.

Prosecutors say an investigation into the man determined he was not part of the ambush of the victims, who were members of a fundamentalist Mormon community.

Sonora State Police arrested the suspect, and found him in possession of assault-style rifles and ammo that were similar to those used in the Monday attack.

All nine victims had dual U.S.-Mexican citizenship.
