Utah Senator Mitt Romney is weighing in on the murders of at least nine American citizens in Mexico by drug cartel gunman.

Speaking at the Capitol, Romney said he agrees with President Trump that Mexico has to "knuckle down" and go after these cartels.

Romney says the briefings so far have not suggested a motif, and he would be surprised if this was a targeting.

He added that Mexico is also concerned about the increasing level of violence at the border.

Six of the victims were children, while the other three were women.

The dead were part of a caravan of members of a Mormon settlement called La Mora, about 70 miles south of Douglas, Arizona in Sonora State.
