Democratic Congressman Ben McAdams is sharing more details about his ordeal with COVID-19.

Speaking on the Today Show, McAdams said the disease felt like a bad cold at first but then hit him really hard just a couple days into it, sending him to the hospital as he struggled to breathe.

The congressman says he thought he would just need to stay overnight to be observed for falling oxygen levels, but that then turned into eight days, during which he didn't have the energy to lift the telephone to talk with his family.

McAdams then urged Americans to take warnings from health officials about the coronavirus seriously.
