Deaf patients file lawsuit against IHC for discrimination
A group of deaf patients has filed a lawsuit against Intermountain Healthcare for discrimination.
In their lawsuit, the patients say the hospital network is not meeting requirements set forth in the Americans with Disabilities Act to provide in-person interpreters who can translate American Sign Language for previously scheduled appointments.
Instead, Intermountain has provided translators remotely on video connections.
The plaintiffs argue that approach could lead to breakdowns in communication, affecting the quality of medical care.
