Dixie’s Vest dominates in opener; Tigers stun Cedar, PV dominates
ST. GEORGE – Dixie, Hurricane and Pine View opened with wins as Region 9 baseball competition began Tuesday.
Cooper Vest continued his spectacular career with a one-hit domination in the Flyers' 3-1 victory over Snow Canyon at Flyers Field. The Warriors actually led after an error created an unearned run in the top of the third inning.
But Dixie scored two runs in the fourth, sparked by a double from Blake Oaks, to take the lead. Oaks also had an RBI single in the fifth to provide some insurance for Dixie, which enters region play as the two-time defending region and state champion.
The two teams meet again tonight at Warrior Field.
Hurricane didn't win a game in region last season, but the Tigers already have one win this season. Max Raddatz pitched six strong innings and also had three RBIs as Hurricane beat Cedar 7-3. The Tigers scored five runs in the second inning to jump out ahead in the road win.
Pine View also started 1-0 in region with a one-sided 10-1 victory over Canyon View. Brandon Roundy had three hits and Bridger Barney allowed no earned runs in six innings for the Panthers.
