Utah Governor Gary Herbert is celebrating the reduction of the state's COVID-19 alert level.

The governor said yesterday that state officials would be closely watching how Utahns react to relaxed restrictions on shopping, dining out and getting out of the house this weekend.

He said that a state task force would monitor possible hot spots for the spread of the coronavirus and would act quickly if the need arises.

Today is the first day businesses such as restaurants, hair salons and gyms can open under the new orange-level restrictions.

The governor says Utahns still need to observe social distancing and other healthy practices to keep restrictions at a lower level.
