There are many places right here in Utah to explore and maybe it’s time you did it on a luxury train. I have always had a fascination with traveling by train, maybe because I wanted to ride the Hogwarts Express. It might be just the vacation you need, and you don’t have to go very far.

This train takes you from Moab to Denver in two days with a stopover in Glenwood Springs. The train cars have giant windows so you can enjoy the amazing scenery passing by like you were sitting in a convertible. Much of it follows along the Colorado river and the canyons and cliffs are spectacular.

The food is really good of course. They have a chef preparing meals to eat as you watch the scenery slide by. I only have one recommendation and that is they add a food trolley selling magical treats, mainly jumping chocolate frogs. Sorry, got off on Harry Potter again.

The stopover in Glenwood Springs is pretty cool as well. This is a place about halfway to Denver that would make a nice close vacation as well. There is a hot spring, historic area, hiking and biking, plus an adventure park with a roller coaster over the Colorado.

The company that offers the train ride from Moab to Denver is Rocky Mountaineer and they offer other luxury train rides as well. There are several others doing the same. Here’s a list of the most magnificent train rides in America.

I plan on taking a trip on one of these and let the engineer drive while I watch the landscape. I also hope they don’t mind if I bring a big trunk and my pet owl.
