Today is a day where we will see if Utah, that is the state not the football team, will walk the walk and not just talk the talk. Today is a day where Utah touts itself as being the example to the rest of the country. So, what day is today?

National Family Day is upon us—a time to pause, reflect, and wonder why we don't have more snacks. Yes, it's the perfect opportunity to gather with your nearest and dearest, assuming you can locate them among the chaos of life.

National Family Day is celebrated each year on the fourth Monday in September, and started with the focus of having a family dinner together.

In Utah, where families are often larger than the average dinner table can handle, this holiday feels like a natural fit. After all, the Beehive State is supposedly practically built on the foundation of family togetherness, just like it's built on a mysterious obsession with Jell-O.

But let's face it, "family togetherness" sounds a lot like "kids arguing over whose turn it is to sit in the front seat," or "parents negotiating peace treaties over who does the dishes." Here in Utah, that might mean rallying the troops for a hike in the red rocks of Southern Utah or dragging everyone to a family reunion where the potato salad rivals the size of your car. Either way, you're in for a good time—or at least a memorable one.

National Family Day is also a great excuse to ditch the screens for a while. You could, for example, engage in an intense game of “Who Remembers Where We Put the Keys?” or, if you're feeling particularly brave, attempt a family outing to a local park. Of course, this will end in one kid falling off a swing while another drops their snow cone. But hey, it's all part of the fun!
