Salt Lake City police say a man is in custody after issuing a threat against Mayor Erin Mendenhall.

Investigators say Marlin Richard Baer called the mayor's office Friday and said Mayor Mendenhall would be forcibly removed from office if she didn't "open up the city."

Baer reportedly tied his threat to a Saturday rally calling for city leaders to relax coronavirus restrictions, saying a civil war was coming if those restrictions continue.

Baer was arrested on misdemeanor charges including making a terroristic threat.
