The Salt Lake City Police Department says more than 40 people were arrested during a protest that turned violent over the weekend.

Police Chief Mike Brown said yesterday that most were arrested for failing to disperse, violating curfew or assault on police officers.

Brown said 21 police officers were injured Saturday, including one that was apparently hit in the back of the head with a baseball bat.

Two vehicles were also overturned and set on fire, including one police vehicle.

Police are still seeking suspects in the vandalism of both vehicles.

The violence in Salt Lake City was mirrored nationwide as thousands of people protested the death of George Floyd, an African American man who died in police custody last Monday.
