Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall could submit a request to the state to reduce the city's COVID-19 risk level as early as next week.

The mayor's office said late yesterday that coronavirus data in the city is finally starting to trend downward.

That makes it likely that the mayor will request a move to yellow status for the city when the current statewide order expires next week.

Mendenhall issued a proclamation yesterday allowing restaurants and retailers to do more outside operations in order to serve more customers while practicing proper social distancing.
