Salt Lake City takes financial hit
Salt Lake City is taking a financial hit due to the coronavirus pandemic. Mayor Erin Mendenhall introduced her first budget last night during a virtual meeting.
The spending plan estimates one-point-three-billion-dollars in expenditures for the 2021 fiscal year, down by more than one-third from the 2020 budget.
The administration also projects a nearly nine-percent drop in sales tax revenue.
Despite the economic uncertainty ahead, Mendenhall says she is confident the city can avoid layoffs and pay cuts for city employees.
There will be a hiring freeze until January.
