State officials say they plan to move forward with a ban on the controversial practice of LGBTQ conversion therapy despite an objection from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

State Senator Derek Kitchen, the only openly gay lawmaker in the Utah Legislature, is more than ready to see the practice come to an end.

The executive director of the Utah Department of Commerce said Wednesday that the process to ban the practice would not be delayed.

Earlier this week, the LDS Church objected to the ban on the grounds of being ambiguous in some areas and overreaching in others.

The ban is expected to go into effect Tuesday.
