The Referendum petition drive to put the 2019 tax law on the ballot in November is seeing strong support in Washington County.

Signature gathering meetings were held at libraries and businesses around the county last week and over one thousand voters have signed the petition, according to event organizers.

"A lot of people want to repeal these tax changes," stated Larry Meyers, a county coordinator for the drive.

"We have had voters lining up to sign the petition every time we hold a big event."

Meyers said that the effort is all volunteer and includes people from across the political spectrum.

"We have Republicans and Democrats working together on this, and many teachers and small business owners are helping out," he reported.

Organizers say that over 100 petition packets are in the hands of volunteers gathering signatures locally, with a goal of turning in 10,000 signatures by January 21st.
