Engineers at the University of Utah hope the bionic leg they are testing could become widely available to amputees sometime in the next decade.

Kerry Finn is one of ten amputees currently testing the prototype and he says it takes some getting used to.

The university's Bionic Engineering lab is working on the leg, which is lighter than a normal human leg and has an onboard computer processor and motorized joints.

Engineers hope their design will allow those that need such a device to wear it comfortably for longer periods.

The engineers say they still have lots of work to do before it can be used in the real world.

Kerry Finn is glad to be able to take part in the research, even though the results of the effort won't be seen for years.
