Veterans home under review for handling of Covid-19
The state Department of Health is reviewing the way a Salt Lake City veteran's home has handled COVID-19 safety measures after an outbreak of the virus.
Gary Harter of the Utah Department of Veterans and Military Affairs had a message for families after announcing the outbreak at the William E. Christoffersen Veterans Home.
Forty-one residents and 17 staff members at the home have now tested positive for the virus. That's up from eight cases diagnosed at the beginning of this month.
Harter said Utah Department of Health staffers were at the facility yesterday to review procedures used by Avalon Health Care, the third-party company that runs the veterans home for the stateHarter said the outbreak points to the difficulty of detecting the virus in people who do not show symptoms.
