President Donald Trump went on Fox TV this morning and announced that the alleged shooter and assassin of Charlie Kirk had been captured.

“I think with a high degree of certainty we have him in custody. Someone very close to him turned him in.”

The FBI had been searching for days, releasing images of a person of interest believed to have fired a single shot from a rooftop in what investigators called a “targeted attack.” Authorities questioned and later released two people earlier this week, before focusing on their current suspect.

Here's the shocking part for those of us who live in Southern Utah: The shooter was Tyler Robinson from Washington City and he was captured, after confessing to the murder to his father, in Washington County.

Robinson, who had anti-fascist and radical left-wing opinions, is a 2021 graduate of Pine View High School.

Washington County commissioners issued this statement:

To hear that the perpetrator of such terrible political violence was raised in our beautiful community is profoundly shocking.
Washington County, like Charlie Kirk himself, stands for the values of faith, freedom, the pursuit of happiness, and justice.
A piece of our hearts will forever be with the Kirk family, and we pray that God will continue to watch over them.
We are immensely grateful to our local law enforcement for their swift, coordinated action alongside federal authorities to investigate and arrest the suspected shooter, who has now been transported out of the area.
In this moment, we must hold our loved ones close. Furthermore, we must tone down radical rhetoric and reflect on the importance of our words and actions.
Charlie’s mission—among other things, and the foundation of America—is simple: encourage peaceful dialogue.
On this dark day, we call on all Americans to turn down radical rhetoric and remember the American ideals that Charlie, and our county, have proudly stood for—and will continue to uphold.

The Washington County Attorney’s Office is clarifying details after reports of an arrest in the Charlie Kirk case.

"Officials say a suspect named Tyler Robinson was taken into custody in Washington County and has since been transported to Utah County, which has jurisdiction over the case.

They stress the arrest is not connected to Washington County law enforcement, noting that multiple people share the same name.

The Attorney’s Office thanked local and federal authorities for their coordination in the investigation and arrest."
