5 more deaths, 70 new COVID-19 cases announced Tuesday

Five more deaths and 70 new cases were announced by State Health officials Tuesday, May 12th.

Utah has 6,432 cases of coronavirus, an increase of 70 from Monday. According to the data, that’s the lowest increase the state has seen in a month. Our daily rate increase is reportedly 1.1% from Monday.

Among the deaths reported Tuesday were four Salt Lake County residents and one Weber County resident, the health department reported.

Two of the people from Salt Lake County were men between the ages of 60 and 84. One was hospitalized at the time of his death, and the other was a long-term care facility resident.

The two others from Salt Lake County were women over the age of 85 who were long-term care facility residents.

The person from Weber County who died was also a woman over the age of 85 who living at a long-term care facility, according to the health department.

Officials initially said the woman was from Utah County, but later clarified she was from Weber County.
