An explosion lit up the night sky in Juab County as officials as carried out a controlled detonation of 11 rail tankers after Saturday's train derailment.

The controlled detonation was carried out at 9:30 p.m. on Sunday night, near U.S. Highway 6 and mile marker 124.

It was on Saturday that 24 cars of a 165 car train went off the tracks in a remote area west of Highway 6 between Silver City and Jericho.

The sheriff's office says this was determined to be the safest way to mitigate the volatility of the rail cars that were carrying Propane and Bio-Diesel.

In total, 9 of the derailed rail tankers were carrying Propane and 2 of them were carrying Bio-Diesel.
