The F-C-C is recommending that the digits 9-8-8 be adopted as the new number of the National Suicide Prevention Hotline.

They made the announcement Thursday.

Representative Chris Stewart of Utah sponsored the bill that mandated the report.

Last summer, Stewart said the current national hotline number was too hard to remember.

On Thursday, Stewart said Utah has a high rate of suicide, and the F-C-C announcement was a positive step toward saving lives.

The recommendation will be forwarded to Congress.
