How To Make Your Team Mascot Edible and Delicious

The Orlando Pop-Tart Bowl has announced that the team that wins this year will get to eat the mascot. This is a chance for us to rethink our mascots.

So here for your consideration is a list of ways to make your mascot a delicious treat. 

Start with the right Animal or Treat Item 

Many schools have broken out of the box and thought of interesting mascots. Think of Brutus the Buckeye, Big Red or Otto the Orange, but don’t just try to be random, think like a tailgating chef. The food industry has given us every kind of animated food we can think of, from Cinnamon Toast Crunch and twinkies to the Jolley Green Giant.  

Think Alliteratively 

We have a ton of schools in Utah. Choose your school name and match it with a food item that begins with the same letter. SUU Sandwiches, Snow Canyon Snow Cones, Hurricane Hot Dogs. You know just brainstorm and you will have a genius pairing.  

Don’t Skimp on the Costume  

Make sure that you use the finest ingredients. And don’t just bring out a plate of the food but make a costume that can dance throughout the contest. If you have chosen a meat option you have plenty of smoked, jerked or salted options to make the costume tasty and ready to eat when needed.  

Game Time Can Be Food Prep Time 

If you choose an item that needs to be cooked make it a spectacle as the competition unfolds. You could slip the person out of the costume then lay the Panguitch Pig, (for example) on a spit and let the delicious pork cooking inspire your team to give that extra effort for a post-game picnic.  

Your Cheer Squad Can Round Out the Flavor Pack 

Let’s say you are the Ogden Oreos. Remember that there are as many Oreo flavors as there are obscure trophies in your high school trophy case. Get the cheer squad involved. Let them represent the many varieties of your food items.  

If we follow the trend of the Pop-Tart Bowl we can make the game more tasty and maybe our offensive line more hefty.
