Utahns traveling for the holidays should be aware that new protocols at American Airline hubs and airports are being put in place for...politeness.

That’s right, politeness in an airport. A somehow novel concept that has become a bigger issue with passengers attempting to board airplanes in an unruly manner, The Independent said. American Airlines has released new technology at gates to deter “gate lice” which are people who cut in line and create havoc while boarding.

The technology prohibits people from lining up before their group is called with a noise. Also, their tickets won't scan if they try to get ahead. The sound is minimal and just alerts the flight attendants and is not meant to embarrass anyone.

A test of this technology in Tucson, Washington and Albuquerque were met with some good results, The Independent said. Last month American Airlines revealed the new system and has implemented it into several airports.

Though not everything is perfect, it has helped smooth out the boarding process and acted as a check for connecting flight times. There are still kinks in the system, but passengers are reacting well to the new protocols.

So, there will be no more cutting in line, nervously gathering at the gates like gate lice or just plain rude behavior where American Airlines has a say.

Utahns should be aware of this as they travel for Thanksgiving and Christmas to visit family or vacation. Flights will look a little different but hey, this seems way more polite.
